British Skin Foundation
www.britishskinfoundation.org.uk
OVERVIEW
- The British Skin Foundation is the only charity in the UK dedicated to skin disease. An updated and innovatively designed website now works as a fundraising and not just an information site
The Challenge
- The British Skin Foundation’s previous website communicated the organisation’s important research work, but did little to educate, inspire and encourage people to donate and support its work
- The charity needed a new website to support a busy year of fundraising events
The Solution
- Convio’s design team created an expressive new look for the organisation’s website, keeping the brand identity fun and energetic without undermining the seriousness of the charity’s work
- CSI-style fingerprint textures and abstract close-ups of skin played on the scientific heritage of the charity while making it feel more contemporary
- The website was rebuilt to fulfil the differing needs of its various audiences - providing information and support for sufferers of skin diseases, educating about research into new treatments and skin friendly products by companies such as Dyson and L’Oreal, and supporting its fundraising activities
- There is a much stronger fundraising element to the website – it incorporates strong calls to action - donate, events, news - to inspire users to get involved
The Results
- The innovative design represents an inspired step to build income, communicate and offer information and support online
- The flexibility of the new design combined with using an open source content management system now gives British Skin Foundation the freedom to be a lot more expressive in both visuals and copy and ensures they have total control over the site
What the client said
The previous website was quite conservative and static. We want more people to get involved so we wanted something more lively. We’re aiming high with the changes we’re making, not just from a design perspective but also the content as well to make sure that when someone lands on our home page they feel inspired to discover more about us and what we do.
